Obituary of Philip Seiden

Philip Seiden, 84,  passed away peacefully at his home in Walton on Monday, April 1, 2024  with his wife Alice and his dog Baron by his side.

Phil was born on July 10, 1939 to Minnie (Shenkin) and Howard Seiden, and raised along with his sister Ruth and brothers Marshall and Ron in Far Rockaway, NY, where he attended Far Rockaway High School, and later graduated from Adelphi University with undergraduate and graduate degrees.

Phil was a Boy Scout and a great swimmer, who worked summers as a lifeguard. He also played the piano and the trumpet.

Phil moved to Long Island in 1968. He was a middle school science teacher and later a guidance counselor with the Sachem Central School District, where he worked for 34 years. During this time, he coached the Port Jefferson High School Rifle Club.

In 1972 Phil joined the Mount Sinai Fire Dept and was a member for 30 years until he left Mount Sinai in 2002. He served as the Chief of Department from 1981-1982. He was also a member of the Port Jefferson Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

Phil was an avid hunter and shootist who founded the Mount Sinai Rifle and Pistol Club. He was also a ham radio enthusiast whose handle was “The Ketchup Kid”.

As a child Phil wanted to be a farmer, and in retirement he was able to realize this dream when he moved to Walton, NY in 2002.

Once in Walton he became involved in the community, joining the Walton Fire Dept, becoming a Hunter Safety course instructor, and a member of the Delaware County Shields, along with being involved with the Delaware County Critical Incident Stress Debriefing Team and the Amateur Radio Club.

Phil lived life on his terms and made an impact on everyone he met. He will always be remembered for his generosity, willingness to help those in need, and for his terrible puns.

Phil is survived by his wife: Alice (Money) Seiden; sister: Ruth Cooper; brothers: Marshall and Ron Seiden; children:  Jennifer Lewis and Eric (Carol) Seiden; step-children: Dawn Johnson, RyanLee (Guiliana) Money, Kyle (Margaret) Money, and Monica Money; grandchildren: Keri (Jamie) Murphy, Theresa McDonough, Seth Lewis, and Rachel Lewis; great-grandchildren: Keegan, Ava, Charlotte, and Rafael; and nieces and nephews: Scott Cooper, Suzanne Cooper, Robert Seiden, Bonnie Kneitel, Jennifer Trautmann, and Julian Seiden.
