Obituary of William V. Wetmore

William V. Wetmore, 92, of Hobart, passed away early Tuesday morning, June 4, 2019 at Robinson Terrace Nursing Home, Stamford.

Born on October 23, 1926 in Newark, NJ, William was the son of the late Harry and Edith (Azzoli) Wetmore.

Bill was a 1945 graduate of Oneonta High School.  Mr. Wetmore then proudly served in the US Army during WWII.

He was married in 1950 to his beloved wife of 69 years, Dorothy (Shaver) Wetmore.

William worked as a bookkeeper/accountant for George Flower and Son for over 20 years;  He was the District Treasurer for South Kortright Central School for an additional 22 years until his retirement; A tax preparer for a number of years; and a member of the IAABO and served as an assigning secretary of the Susquehanna Board of Referees for several years.

Bill was an active member and treasurer of the Hobart United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the former St. Andrew’s Lodge of F&AM in Hobart where he served as Master and was past District Deputy Grand Master serving the Delaware District.

William was intrigued by technology and welcomed the age of computers. He always had to have the latest tools and “gadgets’’. In his sparetime he enjoyed dancing, listening to music, swimming, and doing puzzles with his family.

Mr. Wetmore was predeceased by two sons: Infant, William Wetmore, Jr. and Michael Wetmore; granddaughter: Valerie VanValkenburgh; brothers: Harry (Margaret) and Donald (Marie) Wetmore; and a sister-in-law: Beverly Wetmore.

Besides his wife, Bill is survived by his sons: Vance (Gigi) Wetmore of Stamford, Scott (Tina) Wetmore of Otego and Eric (Dawn) Wetmore of Wynantskill; grandchildren: Ryan (Kristi) Wetmore of Ft. Mill, SC, Matthew Wetmore (USAF) of Korea, McKenzie (Brandon) Watson (USAF) of England, and Deanna Wetmore of Wynantskill; grandson-in-law: Robin VanValkenburgh of Stamford, three great-grandchildren: a brother: George Wetmore; and several nieces, nephews and a cousin.

A celebration of William’s life will be held at 11AM on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at the Hobart United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Carol Dee Stevens officiating.
