I met Ruth and her husband Russ back in 2001 when I moved to Delhi and rented from them for a year while in the Vet Tech program. The three of us adopted each other straight away, and stayed in touch ever since. For the next eleven years we kept in contact mostly via cards, letters, and phone calls. I reconnected in-person with Ruth in 2012 as the Resident Assistant where she lived, when I returned to school.
Ruth was a legend of a lady with an unstoppable joy, no matter what circumstances faced her. A lot of people say this about others, and I believe for Ruth it is actually true: she never griped, complained, or felt sorry for herself, or, had a less-than-complimentary thing to say about another person. She was always looking to bless people, and she succeeded with her generosity in an uncountable number of ways. She lived a beautiful life, and I am eternally grateful to God for allowing me the privilege of adding her to the precious people I call my family; that includes Russ, David, Gus, Holly, Alisha and Stacy, and their kids (these are the only family members of hers I have met).
Women like Ruth are hard to come by these days. We are all lucky to have had her touch our lives, and there will be a tangible emptiness now that she is in Heaven with her Maker. I am particularly glad that she is again united with her husband and two children, and no longer in any physical discomfort; those things, in this immediate aftermath, are about the only things that give me comfort with her recent passing. Thank you God for the time we had together on earth, and I look forward to the time we’ll have together again, in a place where the skies are always blue and filled with rainbows. My love to all her family and friends.
