Obituary of Anthony P. Genardo
Anthony P Genardo 80 years old of Maryland, NY, formerly of South Kortright, passed away on February 21, 2017 at his daughter's home in Lexington, NC.
Anthony was born on July 15, 1936 in Queens, NY.
He was predeceased by his daughter Julie Ann Genardo in 1986 and his brothers Frank and Richard Gennardo.
He is survived by his wife of 50+ years Julia Genardo; his daughter JoAnn Santa Lucia of Lexington, NC and his son John Genardo of Milford, NY; his grandchildren Natalie, Nicole, Joel Santa Lucia Jr. and Scott Genardo; his brothers Joseph, Patrick, and Jerry Gennardo.
Anthony was a NYC Firefighter for 20 years and served Engine 219/Ladder 105 in Brooklyn, NY. He was in the armed forces for 25 years and served in several branches of the military including the Air Force, Coast Guard, and National Guard. Even though he was retired he continued to work for the ARC in Oneonta and Hartwick and worked as a Corrections Officer for the Delaware County Sherriff's Department. When he finally retired for real he continued to provide his services as a volunteer for The American Legion, The Knights of Columbus, The Big Buddy Program in Delaware County and The Delaware County Catholic Charities as a mediator for divorced couples.
Anthony spent most of his life saving other people. He was a hero to the people who knew him even though he never considered himself a hero. He could see the positive in any situation and had a smile and a laugh that would light up a room. No matter what he was always there for his family, his greatest joy was spending time with his family and always put his family first. He was the greatest father, husband, grandfather, uncle, and brother anyone could ever ask for and will always be remembered.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peters Roman Catholic Church, Cross St., Delhi with Rev. Edward Golding Celebrant.
Burial with full military honors will be held at 1:00PM on Friday, June 16, 2017 at Valley View Cemetery, South Kortright.
