Obituary of Burton "Sonny" Merwin, Jr.

Burton A. Merwin, Jr, who many called Sonny, passed away on September 7, 2024 after an extended illness surrounded by loved ones.

He was born September 6, 1943.

Sonny was predeceased by his parents: Burton and Virginia (Lyons) Merwin; brothers: George, Jerry, Richard and Frankie; nephews: Dale (Tuffy) McGregor and Danny McGregor; along with Sam and Max his beloved dogs.

He is survived by his ex-wife and caretaker: Edna Copenhaver; 2 sisters: Shirley McGregor and Marion (Joe) Tuckey; 4 daughters: Emma (Gene) Clink, Angela Reilly, Kimberly (Keith) Wilkinson and Kathy "Jo" Matthews; 5 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; friends, many whom he thought of as family. 

Sonny worked at Royal Oak, charcoal factory for 36 years; Hager Farms; he was a jack of all trades.  He was self-sufficient, built his own garage and was very mechanical and very good at carpentry. Sonny simply enjoyed being outdoors gardening, hunting, doing various projects that always kept him busy. He wasn't one to just sit, he always had to be on the go.  A special thanks to Linda Hager and her boys as well as Edna Copenhaver.     

Graveside services will be held at 2pm on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at Jefferson Evergreen Cemetery, Jefferson.
