Obituary of Knut Holt

Knut Holt 71, of Walton, NY passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at O’Connor Hospital, Delhi, NY with family at his side.

He was born in Larvik, Norway June 9, 1953. He was a man of unwavering determination and strong work ethic, armored with only an 8th grade education level, he was still able to provide for his family. He spent some years as a fisherman living in Massachusetts. He then went on to create a construction company, building many houses all over Staten Island and New Jersey.

Knut moved from New Jersey to Walton, NY in 1987 with his wife and children. He continued to drive back and forth to Staten Island and New Jersey for work, coming home on weekends to spend time with family.

He was known for his stubbornness, deep affection for his family, especially his grandchildren, and love for the casino. Knut knew how to have a great time, was often the life of the party and truly believed you could fix anything with a hammer, including what was under the hood of his car.  You’d often find him at a casino in Atlantic City, the thrill of the game and the camaraderie he found there brought him moments of happiness and excitement.  However, nothing compared to the joy he felt in the presence of his children and grandchildren. Whether it be watching a movie, fishing, or when they would just stop by to say hello, Knut managed to show his grandchildren nothing but love and compassion, in which they will always be grateful. His face would light up with pride and joy when hearing about all of their accomplishments and he never failed to make sure they knew how proud he was of them.

He was predeceased by his mother Randi Ganson, step-father Kenneth Ganson, father Anker Holt, and brother Jan Holt.

Knut leaves behind his wife of 49 years, Debbie Holt, two sons Eric and Keith Holt, and daughter, Greta Holt.  Three grandsons, Ethan Wood, Leif Holt and Ashton Eilertsen and three granddaughters, Gwyneth and Ingrid Holt and Emma Wood.  He also leaves behind his sister Lisa Kristiansen, and many cousins, nephews and nieces.

In accordance with his wishes a formal service will not be held. The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the emergency department staff at O’Connor Hospital for their compassion and kindness.
