Obituary of Alden Burdick

Alden Burdick, 81, of Bloomville, passed away on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 following a long illness.

Born on April 18, 1943 in Bloomville, Alden was the son of the late Frank and Gladys (Hitt) Burdick.

He proudly served in the US Army from 1962 until his honorable discharge in 1965.

Alden was married on December 17, 1966 to Janice Briscoe Burdick, a union that lasted over 57 years until Janice’s passing on January 20, 2024.

Mr. Burdick served as a fireman for the Bloomville Fire Department.

He worked as a butcher for over 30 years at the former Provimi Veal Plant in Bloomville, following their closing, he went on to work for Don's Dairy Supply of South Kortright and Alden retired in 1994 from Riddle Bros.

Alden loved sports, often cheering on South Kortright, he also coached women’s softball for the former Coach Lamp team in Stamford.   He was also an avid golfer, Alden was a member of Stamford Golf Course where he recorded a hole in one.

He is survived by his daughter Paula (Tim) Schermerhorn; grandchildren: Matt (Sydney), Chelsea and Ben Casey; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his wife, Alden was predeceased by his siblings: Elsie, Mildred, Ford and Leonard.

Graveside services with military honors will be held at 3PM on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at Riverside Cemetery, Bloomville.  Following the service at the cemetery a celebration of Alden's life will follow at the Bloomville Fire Department.
