Obituary of Karen Jahnes

Karen Jahnes, 56, of East Meredith, NY and formerly of Blauvelt, NY, passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2023 at home.   

Karen was born on October 27, 1966 at Nyack Hospital, the youngest daughter of Richard and Mary (Mahoney) MacFadden.

She was a 1984 graduate of Tappan Zee High School and was a dedicated and beloved employee of the Town of Orangetown Highway Department for 37 years, retiring in 2021.  She married her soul mate, best friend, and love of her life Thomas Jahnes on December 14, 1995. 

Karen is survived by her husband Tom; cherished daughters Jessica and Jaclyn; sister and brother-in law Kathy and Dale Webster; brother and sister-in-law Rick and Kathy MacFadden; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Linda and John Kingston; nieces and nephews Kristen Smith (James), Kaitlin Webster, Mary MacFadden, Samantha MacFadden, Rick MacFadden, Shawn Miller, Jonathan Kingston and Isabella MacFadden .  Karen also leaves behind her very special friends Maureen and Kurt Schroder, whose love and support over the years meant the world to her and her family.

Family was important to Karen.  She spent most of her free time with Tom and her daughters; being together was the most important to her, whether it be riding their four wheelers through the woods or taking trips to the “shore”.  Her infectious laugh and upbeat personality touched the hearts of everyone who knew her.  She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister and friend.  She will be missed by everyone who had the good fortune to be a part of her life. 

A memorial service will be held at the Moritz Funeral Home, 98 Route 303  in Tappan, NY on Saturday, March 25 from 1-3 p.m. 

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to one’s favorite charity.
