Obituary of George Edwards

George W. Edwards 96, of Gilboa, went home to be with his Lord late Tuesday evening, June 7, 2022, at Cooperstown Center for Rehabilitation.

He was born on May 20, 1926, in Bennington, Vermont.

George served in the United States Navy during four separate enlistments, serving during WWII, Korean War and Vietnam War, serving for over fifteen years between from 1942 until his honorable discharge in 1968.

He was married to Laura Edwards until her passing in September of last year.

George was an avid stamp collector, enjoyed model trains and working outdoors.  He loved to have discussions regarding politics, current affairs, and world events.

He is survived by his stepdaughter: Suzanne (Gilbert) Vortkamp of Jefferson; four grandchildren: Will (Kali) Johnson, Chelsea Johnson, Jessica Johnson and Abigail Vortkamp; niece: Rosie (Mike) Scalice; along with several other nieces, nephews and cousins.

Graveside services with full military honors will be held at 10AM on Saturday, June 18, 2022, at Manorkill Cemetery, Conesville, NY with the Rev. Elliot Oaks.
