Obituary of Blanche M. Fletcher

Blanche M. Fletcher, 90, of Delhi, passed away on Thursday evening, January 30, 2020 at Delhi Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born on September 6, 1929 in Delhi, Blanche was the daughter of the late Donald and Mary (Short) Davidson. Blanche’s childhood was spent on the family farm in DeLancey. She was a 1947 graduate of Delaware Academy and went on to graduate from Albany Business School. Upon graduation she returned to Delhi and married Robert G. Fletcher on February 4, 1949, a union that lasted 65 years until his passing on February 14, 2015. Blanche and Bob started Fletcher’s Oil Company in Delhi, a company they operated until their retirement. During the early years of the Fletcher’s Oil, Blanche also operated a successful seamstress business. She was a member of the United Ministry Church of Delhi, the Eastern Star, and was a leader in the Indian Hills Girl Scout Council, spearheading fund raising for the council and having the main lodge dedicated in her honor and named Fletcher Lodge. For several years Blanche and Bob wintered in Sarasota Florida, where they loved playing golf, bridge (which she enjoyed her weekly bridge club) and enjoyed the company of many friends. Besides her husband, Blanche was predeceased by her brother: Don Davidson; and sisters: Shirley Fisher and Norma Smith. She is survived by her children: Sandy Hunt of Malta, Deb Amberg of Laguna Beach, CA, Terri (Bill) Adriance of Moreau, and Robert Fletcher, Jr. of Delhi; six grandchildren: Jennifer Hunt Traver (Kevin, Jullie Adriance Delos (Mark) Benjamin Hunt (Jodie), Alexander Fletcher (Jenna), Shannon Fletcher Cohen (Ben) and Jackson Fletcher; seven great-grandchildren; sister-in-law: Marjorie Fletcher Hyde; and several nieces, nephews. A graveside service and burial will be held in the spring at Woodland Cemetery, Delhi. Contributions in memory of Blanche may be made United Ministry of Delhi.
