Obituary of Walter "Chris" Sloan

Walter (Chris) Sloan, 77, passed away at home in Stamford, NY, on September 22 after spending the last day of summer with his family by his side.  Sloan, as he was known, was born in Jersey City, NJ, on September 23, 1941.

As a young man, he served his country in the Vietnam War.  After marrying Dail Sirotiak, and the birth of their daughter Jessica, he came to Stamford to work as a sales manager and trainer at Deer Run Resort.  Sloan and his family eventually made Stamford their home, although he continued to visit loved ones in New Jersey often. While working in Stamford, he enjoyed organizing events for the Special Olympics.

Sloan lived life to its fullest, but especially enjoyed reading about WWII and the Civil War, having legendary parties and bonfires in the backyard, lunch out with his wife, and spending time with his friends and family at home, in New Jersey, on Long Beach Island, and in Gettysburg.

He is survived by his wife, Dail; daughter Jessica (Justin) Rueffer; grandchildren Jacob, Declan and Sloan Rueffer; daughter Susan Mullins and family; daughter Kerry Cook and family; mother-in-law, June Sirotiak; sisters and brothers-in-law Duke Sirotiak, Doug Sirotiak, Nancy and Jimmy Cox, June and John Lisa; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Sloan may have changed latitudes, but his attitude toward life will be carried on in the hearts of many -- he had a good life all the way.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10AM on Friday, September 27, 2019 at the Sacred Heart Church, 27 Harper Street, Stamford with the Rev. Edward Golding celebrant.

Donations in Sloan’s memory may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project (woundedwarriorproject.org)
