John "Jack" Gariepy, Sr.
1943 - 2019
Condolences
Mr. Gariepy will always be one of my mentors in life. He loved life and baseball even more. He made class fun and baseball a life. He was down the hall from my mom at the Delhi Rehab Center and I was glad I got to visit with him this summer. In my visit with him, his only complaint was they didn’t have the MLB network or ESPN on the TV line up. He had his priorities! Many great memories that I will cherish forever.
Growing up Mr. Gariepy was always in my life and I respected him a great deal. He was my first coach, golf partner and teacher. He treated me well and taught me to push myself. I always wanted to make him proud. Many things in my life bring back memories of him.
I will always remember you. Thank you, Mr. Gariepy.
My condolences to Mr. Gariepy's family. He was one of my teachers at Delaware Academy. May you find some comfort in the fact that he touched so many lives.
Jack was awesome. I was angry I was not able to take his criminal class. I wanted in his classss so bad.. I remember one day I was asked to make his coffee with the instruction of NO SUGAR. well when you get talking or used to making things your own way... I added sugar.. when he asked I was like nnooo... and then he said it was the best coffee he ever had.. I replied... I added sugar.. he didn't believe me. I worked briefly at Delhi rehab.. and got to see him. I would say hi when I went by and would help if i could. deepest condolences to his whole family and best friend Betty Kipp who i got to see. We have lost a great person RIP and may you PLAY ball with all the greats in heaven...
Mr. Gariepy was my favorite. He had a great sense of humor and really touched the lives of his students. He didn't even get mad when we all walked in late, sporting Burger King crowns. He'd mark my papers with "Not bad for a broad " just to inspire me to debate the issues. Condolences to Senorita Kipp, another great teacher.
He was a great teacher and always had time to speak to and listen to others. He was a true treasure at Delaware Academy.
Deepest sympathies to his family and loved ones.

I'm and sorry to hear about Jack ,I have known him for a long time we use to sit and have a few beers at the legion ,and when I bartended we would have great debates over sports ,he was a good man who cared about this community and the people in it ,,may you rest in peace Jack ,,
Mr Gariepy was one of the best teachers at DA. He made learning history fun and exciting. I remember doing a painting of George Washington for a project in eight grade. Mr G liked it so much he hung it in his room, and told me I could have it back when I graduated. Last day of school in 12th, I went to his room and he had it ready for me to finally take it home after having it in his room for over four years.
RIP Mr G.
I'm so sorry to hear of Mr. Gariepy's passing. I was in his first class when he came to Delhi. He really inspired me to love history and became a better student. Sincere sympathy to his family. A great man that inspired me to do better. I will always be grateful to him.
Mr. Gariepy, was a great coach, teacher and role model. He was like a second dad to me. I have such fond memories of Mr G and cross country races. He will truly be missed.
I am so sorry to hear of Mr. Gariepy's passing. I have many fond memories of being in his classroom at DA- stories of the riots in Detroit, World War 2, and of course plenty of chats about the Detroit Tigers- also a team my family rooted for religiously! He had a great presence and demanded respect; I remember admiring that. Condolences to Mr. Gariepy's family and to Señorita Kipp.
My deepest condolences to the entire family. May God bless Jack's family and friends.
RIP Jack.
He was always ready to talk sports and history. One of the best teachers DA had.
The greatest coach ever. Now it's time for you to play on the field of dream. You will be coach I remember
I was privileged to call Jack a friend for 50 years. I played against his Delhi team in Legion baseball, against Jack in town team baseball, and for years met him on the golf course and beyond. Some of the fondest memories I carry are of our several road trips to Camden Yards to watch his beloved Detroit Tigers (and my beloved New York Yankees) among other teams. Jack was a gentleman, a man of honor, a good man to call friend, and a great man to share laughs with. Delhi will miss him; his many friends will miss him; I will miss him.
I want to say that Mr. Gariepy was one of my largest mentors. He was not only my cross country coach and History teacher he was my everything during that time. Mr. G had a way of making me dig down deep inside and think who I really was. It had nothing to do with winning the next race or making it to states, it was teaching me life lessons that I would take and implement for years to come. He told me " Mel you are burning the candle at both ends, you can't keep doing this" I always looked at him and said, " I know Mr. G". 30 years later , I am still burning that candle at both ends. I truly can't thank him enough for what he taught me and how he took me in under his wing. My deepest sympathies to his family and Miss K. You were blessed with an amazing man on so many levels. Much love to you all, fly high Mr. G... go Tigers!!!!
