Obituary of David L. Hampel
David L. Hampel, 81, of Delhi, formerly of New York City, passed away on May 15, 2019 at O’Connor Hospital in Delhi.
Born on March 2, 1938 in Beirut, Lebanon, David was the son of the late Chester William and Helen Frances (Campbell) Hampel.
David graduated high school at The Halstead School in Yonkers NY and was a graduate of SUNY Morrisville with an Associate’s degree in Agriculture.
David enjoyed hunting small game, fishing and tying flies for fishing. He collected items from nature, like fossils and arrow heads. David also collected world stamps and coins. Using a hammer and anvil, David was also a metal smith and enjoyed making miniature swords.
He was employed in several fields including retail and insurance sales and operation of a hyperbaric chamber.
Mr. Hampel retired to Delhi area 10 years ago from New York City to be near family and to enjoy the beauty of the Catskill Mountains.
David was active member of the Delaware County Senior Council, where he enjoyed attending monthly meetings and was active in fund raising for the group.
David is survived by his siblings: John W. Hampel of Downsville, Stephen F. Hampel of Whitesboro and Jean E. Hampel of Albany; and several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Besides his parents, David was predeceased by a brother: Daniel K. Hampel.
Friends and relatives are invited to a memorial service and time of sharing at 7PM on Friday, May 24, 2019 at the Hall & Peet Funeral Home, 134 Main Street, Delhi, with Pastor Kent Terchunian officiating.
