Obituary of Deborah K. Misner

Deborah K. Misner, 72, of Delhi, passed away early Thursday morning, November 22, 2018 at Albany Medical Center.

Born on September 16, 1946 in Port Jervis, Debbie was the daughter of the late Alfred J. and Anna 'Nancy' (Miller) Kirk.

Debbie attended SUNY Delhi and upon graduation married George A. Misner III on June 17, 1967 in Madison, New Jersey.

Upon settling in Delhi, New York, George and Debbie started a family.  While raising their two small children, Debbie worked part-time as a medical transcriptionist, eventually working full time as a personnel clerk for Delaware County for over 17 years.  She also worked as an election inspector and served on the Delhi Village Planning Board for many years.

Debbie was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Society of Oneonta for over 50 years, serving on many committees including chairing the Religious Education Committee for a number of years.  She was active in many community groups including NAMI and the League of Women Voters.   Debbie and George opened their home to many of their children's friends as well as hosting a number of Rotary Exchange Students from countries such as Denmark, Germany, Belgium, and Norway.  Over the years, George and Debbie have enjoyed many return visits from their Rotary Children and have even visited them in their homes during their travels.

She enjoyed traveling and vacationing on Star Island off the Coast of New Hampshire and in Cape Cod where she enjoyed the beach. She also enjoyed gardening, bird watching and hiking, but Debbie's greatest joy was her family.  She was a devoted wife, loving mother and proud grandmother.

Debbie is survived by her husband of 51 years: George Misner of Delhi; children: Eric (Lisa) Zuend-Misner of Oneonta and Karen Misner of West Davenport; grandchildren: Karalie (Janice) Black-Misner of Tennessee, Thian Misner of Oneonta, Matthew Horne of Oneonta, Tyler Horne of Oneonta and Sara Horne of Oneonta; great-grandchildren: Honey-Bea and Cotton.

The family plans to hold a Celebration of Debbie's life on Saturday, December 8 at the Unitarian Universalist Society of Oneonta.  The service will begin at 4pm and a reception will follow.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Debbie’s name to NAMI or to The Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
