Obituary of Olive C. "Petie" Gile

Olive C. “Petie” Gile, 88, of Delhi, passed away on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at Fox Hospital Nursing Home surrounded by her family.

Born on February 7, 1930 in Hamden, Petie was the youngest daughter of eight children of the late Elmer J. and Mattie “Oliver” Clark.

Petie was married to Edison H. “Ed” Gile on January 29, 1950 at the Hamden Presbyterian Church.  The couple enjoyed 63 years of marriage until Ed’s passing on November 3, 2013.

She was a beautician and kept the books at Gile’s Mobil Station on the corner of Hollywood and Vine in Delhi until Ed retired in 1991.

Petie was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and she also was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Delhi where she sang in the choir for years.

She had a deep love for her family, she was a loving mother, proud grandmother and great-grandmother. 

Besides her parents and husband, Petie was predeceased by a son: Tom; and her siblings, Ruth, George, Eva, Margaret, Elmer, Mabel and Casey.

She is survived by her children: Dave Gile of Delhi and Mary (Paul) Schmitt of North Franklin; grandchildren: Maci (Jason Freire) Gile, Michelle (Brett Fritts) Schmitt, Lisa Schmitt and Emily (Ian) Hull; great-grandchildren: Alex and Zoe; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of Petie’s life will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at the First Presbyterian Church, 4 Clinton Street, Delhi, where friends and relatives are invited to call one hour prior.  Burial will take place at Woodland Cemetery, Delhi.

Contributions in memory of Petie may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Delhi.
