Obituary of James E. Webster, Sr.

James E. Webster, Sr., 80, of Stamford, passed away on Friday evening, February 23, 2018 at his home with his loving wife and son at his side.

Jim was born on November 22, 1937 in Cliffside Park NJ.  He was the son of the late David and Veronica (Doran) Webster of Park Ridge NJ.  After graduating from Park Ridge High School, he went on to serve in the US Navy from 1957 until his Honorable Discharge in 1959.

In his earlier years, Jim worked as a butcher at the B&M Market in Park Ridge.  Jim apprenticed with the electrical union prior to his move to Stamford NY in 1969.  He worked on the expansion of SUNY Cobleskill and the construction of the electrical switchyard at the Blenheim-Gilboa Power Plant.   Jim was hired fulltime by the New York Power Authority in 1972, retiring in 1994 as Electrical Superintendent.

Jim married Dorothy Condoyiannis Webster in 1959, a union that lasted over 51 years until her passing in 2010.  Jim found happiness a second time and married Polly Hallock on April 22, 2017.

Mr. Webster was a 46 year member of Free Masonry, being raised in the former St. Andrews Lodge in Hobart and continued as a member of the Delaware River Lodge #439 F&AM in Delhi.  He served NYS Grand Lodge as District Deputy Grand Master of the Delaware District in 1981/1982.  He and his late wife Dorothy also served as Patron and Matron in the Order of the Eastern Star.

Jim was an avid outdoorsman.   He enjoyed fishing, bird hunting and mowing his lawn.  He was a “dyed in the wool” Yankees fan and never missed an opportunity to cheer on his team.  Jim was a member of the Stamford Cemetery Board, the Stamford United Methodist Church, and he was a charter member of the Stamford Emergency Squad.

He is survived by his wife, Polly Webster of Stamford; his children Debra Altman of Tucson AZ and James Webster, Jr and his wife Molly of Beacon NY; his granddaughter  Katie Webster of Beacon; his brother and sister-in-law Dan and Judy Webster of Park Ridge NJ; his sister Marian States of Park Ridge NJ and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jim was predeceased by his daughter Laurie Webster in 2002.

The family would like to thank Dr. Benjamin Friedell, Dr. Danielle Knight and the nurses and staff of the Bassett Cancer Institute at Fox Care.
