Obituary of B. Carson Spurlock
B. Carson Spurlock, 84, of Bainbridge passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown, surrounded by his family.
Born on August 16, 1933 in Salyersville, KY, the son of the late Lester J. and Nell (Patrick) Spurlock.
Carson graduated from Wheelersburg High School in Wheelersburg, Ohio and then went on to attend both Morehead State College in KY and The Ohio State University in Columbus, OH majoring in Business.
Mr. Spurlock was married to Martha E. “Betty” (Bowen) Spurlock on June 22, 1957.
He first worked for the Atomic Energy Commission for a short time and then went to work for over 20 years with Simmons Company starting in 1954 in Columbus Ohio, in a new branch as a Manager, he implemented the Production Control Department. A few years later he was transferred to Kenosha, Wisconsin for 6 months where he was trained in Information and Computer Technology. The Company Manufacturing Plant moved into new and larger facility at Munster, Indiana, where he installed and implemented one of the very earliest IBM Computer Systems. This computer was to be used for the entire Company for all plants across the U.S. He then became the Comptroller for the Eastern Division. Later he was then transferred to Elizabeth, New Jersey as General Manager of the Eastern Division. When Carson left Simmons he went on to work for Pi Consulting Co. as a Management Consultant working for different companies across the U.S. and Canada. He retired from Harvard Industries in Union, New Jersey after five years as a full time Management Consultant for the company.
Following his retirement, he and Betty settled in Bainbridge, New York to their 88 acre farm, raising horses and sheep, walking the hills and forest, watching the fish in the trout stream, enjoying all the deer and animals on the farm. Carson enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and spending time at the family cottage for 50 years on Constant Lake in Ontario, Canada.
Mr. Spurlock is survived by his wife of over 60 years: Betty Spurlock of Bainbridge; two sons: Tom of West Caldwell, NJ and Tim of Bainbridge; one brother: Harold of Colorado; a sister: Glenna Stemen of Ohio; five grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held at a date and time to be announced.
