Obituary of Joseph L. Hoffman
Joseph L. Hoffman, 69, of Harpersfield, passed away early Wednesday morning, November 29, 2017 at Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown following a short but hard fought battle with cancer.
Born on January 5, 1948 in Brooklyn, He was the son of the late George and Estell (Jochum) Hoffman.
Mr. Hoffman proudly served in the US Navy where he received a Bronze Star during the Vietnam War.
Joseph retired from Maintenance/Engineering Dept of the NYSOMRDD in Dutchess County. Following his retirement, he was a self-employed carpenter.
He was married October 31, 1999 to his devoted wife and best friend Lauren Hoffman.
Joe was a talented woodworker, he enjoyed working with wood, building his own home and many pieces of custom furniture and crafts, Joe had a passion salvaging old growth wood and barn boards and making them into new works of art.
He enjoyed the companionship of his K-9 friends, especially Molly.
Above all else, Joe will be remembered for his gracious approach to life and true friendship, if there was something that need to be fixed or built for any of his family or friends all they had to do is let Joe know, you didn’t even need to ask and Joe would be right there in his shop working on that project.
Besides his parents, Joe was predeceased by his sister Ethel.
Joe is survived by his wife: Lauren; children: George, Andy, Jeremy, Jennifer, Kristen and Aimee; grandchildren: Melanie, Melissa, Raina, Brianna, Keira, Courtney and Lubin; great-grandchild: Gianna; brother: George (Claudia); brother-in-law: Tom; nieces and nephews: Elizabeth, Kathy, Christopher, Tommy, Stephen and George.
Friends and relatives are invited to call on the family from 2-5PM on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at the MacArthur Funeral Home, 40 Cornell Ave., Hobart, where a celebration of life and time of sharing will follow at 5PM with full military honors.
