Obituary of Donald W. Jones

Donald W. Jones, 65, of Delhi went to be with his savior Saturday morning, December 24, 2016 at Binghamton General Hospital. Born on April 14, 1951 in Delhi, Don was the son of the late Herman and Martha (Greene) Jones. Don "Jonesy" was a 1971 graduate of Delaware Academy in Delhi, where he was a three-sport athlete in football, wrestling and track. Mr. Jones worked in the custodial department for over 25 years at SUNY Oneonta until his retirement. In his earlier years, Don worked for the former McCall's Furniture Store in Delhi, The Delhi Dinner, and also lifeguarded at the Delhi Village Pool. He was also an avid photographer and photographed several weddings and functions over the years. He loved attending the Alliance Church and the Friday Men's bible study. Don was always active in the community, volunteering whenever he was needed, most memorably Don proudly served for the last 42 years as the Delhi community Santa Claus, appearing in parades, visiting schools, daycares and community functions proudly wearing red. Don was a loving caring man who was always watching for people and causes that he could bless with his generosity. He is survived by one sister: Carol E. Springer of Herkimer; nieces and nephews: William, Rebecka, David and Harold "Lynn"; and several cousins and friends. A celebration of life will be held at 11AM on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at the Delhi Alliance Church, 16178 State Highway 28, Delhi, with the Rev. Brett White officiating.
