Obituary of Raymond M. Christensen

Davenport Center Raymond M. Christensen, 76, of Davenport Center, New York passed away Tuesday, September 9, 2014. He was born December 18, 1937 in Fords, New Jersey the son of Marinus and Petrina (Petersen) Christensen. Ray was a Graduate of Charlotte Valley Central School in the Class of 1955 after which he served in the United States Army. In 1959 he and his wife Gail purchased the family dairy farm where he farmed until 1999, forty years. Always community minded he served as President of CVCS School Board for 10 years; served on the ONC BOCES Board; was the Town of Davenport Supervisor for 17 years, serving as Chairman for 6 years; he was Special Assistant to the New York State Commissioner of Agriculture in 1999 and served throughout the George Pataki Administration; and he was currently serving on the Board of Directors of the Delaware National Bank, Delhi, NY. Ray loved spending time with his family and being out of doors. In recent years he spent many hours entertaining on his front porch. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Gail Dyer Christensen; his children, Chris (Jeanne Marie) Christensen, Katrina (Michael) Crandell, Erik (Marissa) Christensen, and Peter (Shannon) Christensen; his grandchildren, Jack and Ted Christensen, Trevor and Spencer Crandell, Cody and Jordan Wamsley, Madeline, Reiley and Brayden Christensen and a large extended family. Celebration of Life will be held on the family farm on the flat behind the barn off of Pine Lake Road at 1:00pm Sunday, September 14, 2014 with Rev. Bert More officiating. Burial will be in Davenport Cemetery, Davenport, NY at the convenience of the family. Contributions in his memory may be made to East Meredith Fire Department or Charlotte Valley Central School.
