Condolences
Kind, loving and best sense of humor. So glad my children had her as a teacher. Miss you, Joan. Thoughts and prayers to the family.
Mrs. Barber was my second grade teacher in 1980. I remember her fondly as a dedicated and intelligent teacher who encouraged my love of reading.
My deepest condolences to her family.
Dear Mike, Michelle, Jeanine and Family,
My sincere sympathy at the loss of your wife, mother, sister, aunt and grandma . As a young teacher, I was fortunate enough to start my teaching career at A. L. Kellogg. I was even luckier to have my classroom right next door to Joan's 4th grade room. Anyone who happened to spend time in Joan's room knew just how organized and methodical she was. Her room was clutter free, colorful, filled with student's writing and books. Furthermore, there was always a list of extra credit activities for students who needed the challenge! In contrast, I had no idea how to effectively set up a real classroom. At first, I didn't want Joan to know how much I didn't know; especially because her adorable 8-year-old daughter Jeanine was in my class. However, in her own gentle and unassuming way, Joan shared her expertise and classroom management techniques with me. I soon realized that Joan was an important leader who was always willing to extend herself to others, both inside and outside the classroom. Her kindness, friendship and her sincere dedication to her students will not be forgotten.
Fondly,
Janelle Fletcher
My deepest condolences to Mike and his family.
A stand-out teacher who cared about her students. She was dedicated, caring, fair, and a true educator. A long standing asset to ALK who shaped the lives of many. I am proud to say she was my teacher and her passing saddens me. I can still see her face as she stood on her tip toes to peer in the window above the classroom door and her watchful eye from the classroom window as we exited the busses. Condolences to her family and friends.
Our deepest Sympathy. You are in our thoughts. Steven, Christy & Jamie Llewellyn

I could always trust Joan's judgement and I admired her sense of honesty. It was a pleasure to teach with her at A.L. Kellogg School and we continued to keep in touch over the years. We just met in Oneonta this past September and I will miss the chance to see her again. Loving thoughts to Michael, Michelle and Jeanine...Thinking of you, Maureen Fitz Gerald

To the Barber family, I can not count the amount of wonderful memories I have from your house growing up. Joan never knew what us girls were up to from young child sleep overs , high school games and right up to the day of Michelle's wedding. She always had open arms and just understood us! Love you Mom Barber !
