Obituary of Allan Swantak

Allan Swantak 66, passed away peacefully at Robinson Terrace on Sunday, February 21, 2016 surrounded by his family. He was born March 9, 1949 the son of the late Frank A. Swantak and Ethel (Reinertsen) Swantak. Allan was a life-long resident who grew up on the family farm. He graduated from South Kortright Central School in 1968, at which time he chose to continue farming, becoming the third generation to do so. He operated the farm until 2014. In addition to farming Allan drove the ONC BOCES delivery van for 15 years. In 1969 Allan married his high school sweetheart Elaine Simmons. He was a loving and caring husband who brought laughter to the years they shared together. Allan's many friends will remember him for his easy going personality and friendly smile. Allan enjoyed hunting on his family farm, experiencing 47 years of success with his long bow and rifle. Allan enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, including his special buddies from Walton and Norwich. Being with family was important to him. He enjoyed family get-togethers always celebrating birthdays with wings and pizza and a 6AM birthday phone call. Over the years Allan enjoyed taking his family on vacation to Virginia Beach and snowmobile riding in the winter. He was very proud of his grandchildren's academic achievements in school and their success in sports. Besides his wife, Elaine, Allan is survived by his children: Nancy and her husband Bill Boest of Bloomville; Beverly and her husband Jon Soule of Bloomville; his son David Swantak and his wife Gena of South Kortright; grandchildren: Chad, Jesse and Dylan Boest, Kyle and Courtney Soule and Tyler and MacKenzie Swantak; great grandchildren: Cole Allan and Parker Allan Boest; his mother-in-law: Ruth Simmons; sisters in law and brothers in law: Karen and Enos Van Amburgh of Poplarville, Miss., Diana and Giles Ebert of Callicoon, N.Y., Cathy and Mike Gathright of Sumpter, South Carolina; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Allan was predeceased by his parents and his father-in-law: Jim Simmons. Friends and relatives may call on the family from 4-7PM Friday, February 26, 2016 at the McArthur Funeral Home, 40 Cornell Avenue, Hobart. Funeral services and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
