Obituary of Miss Gertrude A. Clark

Gertrude A. Clark, 79, of Delhi, passed away surrounded by her family on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at Albany Medical Center after being stricken at her home last week. Born on April 22, 1936 in Delhi, She is the daughter of the late Robert and Clara (Hymers) Clark. Gertie grew up on the family dairy farm on Elk Creek in Delhi, She was a 1955 graduate of Delaware Academy. Gertie worked for over 42 years in New York City, becoming the banquet manager of Copelands Catering Service. She returned to the Delhi area and took a position as cook with Bolsum Lake Fisherman's Club in Lew Beach. Following her retirement she was a landlord for her property on Falls Mills and Elk Creek Roads, even into her retirement she continued to help cater large events in New York City. She enjoyed being active and help people. She was an active member of The Tabernacle of The Congregation. Gertie had a blessed life, was loved by many, and throughout her life her family was able to see the gifts God had given her, the many friends she had touched and the people she had helped over the years. Gertie was one who entered the lives of others with a smile and a good word, and had a way of making the moment very special. She will be very missed. Gertie also had a great love for animals and usually had a four legged companion close by. She is survived by her sister: Sylvia (Richard) Wilbur of Downsville; a brother: Gerald (Phyllis) Clark of Meridale; nieces and nephews: Timothy and Mark Wilbur, Bethany Rendleman, Jessie Clark and Hope Yates; several grandnieces and nephews; and many close friends. Besides her parents, Gertrude was predeceased by a sister and brother in law, Nancy and Richard Sackett; and a nephew, Robert Mason. Memorial services was held at 2PM on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at the Tabernacle of the Congregation, on the Ouleout, State Hwy 28, Meridale, with the Rev. Mark Mallaber officiating. Friends and relatives are invited to call on the family one hour prior to the service at the Tabernacle. Private burial will take place at Woodland Cemetery, Delhi. A second memorial service for Gertie will be held at 4:45PM on Sunday, August 23, 2015 at the Grace Congregational Church of Harlem, 310 West 139 Street, NY NY 10030 with the Rev. Nigel Pierce, Celebrant. Contributions in memory of Gertrude may be made to Delhi Fire Dept. and EMS, PO Box 405, Delhi, NY 13753. Arrangements are with Hall & Peet Funeral Home, Delhi.
