Obituary of Charles Laing

Andes, NY Charles R. "Rob" Laing, Jr., of Andes, passed away suddenly on Tuesday evening, March 22, 2016 at O'Connor Hospital in Delhi. Born on October 28, 1945 in Topeka, Kansas, Rob was the son of the late Charles R. and Laura (Linville) Laing. He graduated from Andes Central School and attended Trinidad State College in Colorado. Mr. Laing proudly served his country in the US Army during Vietnam, enlisting in 1966, he received the Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars and the Combat Infantryman's Badge. He was honorably discharged in 1968. He was married to Loretta C. (Segnini) Laing, who survives. Rob owned and operated American Builders, a local contacting company based from his home in Andes, he recently retired due to illness. Rob was the manager and original founder of Country Express, a classical country music band, based in Delaware Co., Rob played lead guitar, bass, and performed the male lead vocals. He was an outdoor enthusiast, enjoying hunting and fishing. Rob was also a firearm enthusiast, a member of the NRA and the Oneonta Sportsman Club, he also like trap shooting. Besides his wife, Loretta of Andes, Rob is survived by his sister, Roxanne Finkle and brother-in-law, Darwin Finkle of Andes; stepchildren, Dickie and Dobie Perry both of Roxbury; grandchildren, Trent Perry, William Rendler and Mason Hamil; niece, Krista Finkle of Andes; and several close friends. There will be no calling hours. A funeral service will be held at 11AM on Saturday, March 26 at the Andes Presbyterian Church. Burial with full military honors will follow at Andes Cemetery. Arrangements are with Hall & Peet Funeral Home, Delhi.
