Obituary of Jon Campbell

Jon Campbell, 80, of Stamford passed away early Saturday morning, August 26th, 2023 at A.O. Fox Hospital.

Jon was born in his family’s home in the hamlet of Salt Springville on November 7th, 1942, the only son of Earl Campbell and Mae (Hoke). He graduated from SUNY Cobleskill in 1962. He was drafted to the Army in 1964 and was honorably discharged several years later.

After serving, Jon went to SUNY Oneonta in 1966 where he met his loving wife Carol while both were studying abroad in England. They married in 1971 and celebrated 52 years of marriage this July.

Jon was the longtime history teacher at Jefferson Central School, working there from 1969 until he retired in 1998. His current event trivia days were particularly popular with students.

In addition to his wife, Jon is survived by his two beloved sons, Mike and Casey and his two adored cats, Buster and Annie B.

Jon’s hobbies included gardening, watching baseball (especially if the Yankees were losing), befriending cats, and encouraging his sons to remain clean-shaven. He was also a notorious cat-napper and he spent decades searching for a perfectly chilled pillow case.

Following his wife’s retirement in 2004, the two spent many years traveling the world. Favorite getaways included San Diego, Scandinavia, Switzerland and the Italian lakes.

At Jon’s request, there will be no service or calling hours. He will be laid to rest alongside family in Springfield Center at a later date. Donations in lieu of flowers can be sent to the Prostate Cancer Foundation.
