Obituary of Helen M. Svec

Helen M. Svec, 95, of DeLancey, passed away on Monday morning, June 5, 2023 at the Fulton Commons Care Center in East Meadow, NY

Born on January 27, 1928, in East Patterson, NJ, the daughter of the late Stephen M. and Mary (Velarahadsky) Bistritz. Helen graduated from Pace University.

Helen worked as a school aide for 35 years with NY Public Schools in College Point, NY,  following her retirement, she moved to DeLancey with her husband Edward J. Svec, who passed on November 6, 2008.

She enjoyed nature, especially walking in the woods and fly fishing.  Helen was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening and tending to her flower beds.

Besides her parents and husband, Helen was predeceased by a brother: Stephen.

Helen is survived by two sons: Edward and wife Susan Svec of Franklin Square, NY and Raymond  and wife Carolann Svec of Palm Coast, FL; two grandchildren: Edward  and wife Athanasia “Tanya” Svec of Garden City South, NY and Karen and husband Greg Knudsen of Northport, NY; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling Hours will be held from 2-6PM on Sunday, June 11, 2023 at the Hall & Peet Funeral Home, 134 Main Street, Delhi, where a funeral service will be held at 11AM on Monday.  Burial will be at the Woodland Cemetery, Delhi.
