Obituary of Evelyn M. Bedient

DELHI Evelyn M. Bedient, 74, a life-long Delhi resident, passed away Thursday, Dec. 20. 2012, at home in Delhi. She was born on March 10, 1938 in Delhi, the daughter of Donald and Anna (Close) Cantwell. She married William H. Bedient on November 24, 1979 at the First Presbyterian Church, Delhi. Growing up in Delhi and graduating from Delaware Academy in 1956, as a young lady, Evelyn worked for Smalley's Theater and her family's grocery store and gas station. In 1958 she took a position as a Phone Operator at the Delhi Telephone Company and retired as a Plant Clerk in 1996 after 38 years there. Evelyn was a faithful 49 year member of the Delhi First Presbyterian Church, serving as a Deacon. She enjoyed the fellowship with the church women putting together the Courier, the church newsletter. Some of her greatest joys in life were spending time with her grandchildren, especially after school when she watched them and did crafts including painting; walks with her daughter-in-law Gia; and visiting with friends and relatives. Evelyn is survived by her husband of 33 years, William H Bedient of Delhi; a son, Joseph and Gia Cantwell of Delhi; stepchildren, Lisa Bedient, Kevin Bedient, Susan Chamberlain, and Kimberly Bedient; grandchildren, Megan, Erica, Kyle, and Alex Cantwell; step grandchildren, Devon, Sierra, and Austin Bedient, including 6 step grandchildren in Florida; sister in law Beverly Cook; brother in law Jim Bedient; cherished nieces and nephews, John, Bob, Carol, Anna and Mike, Mary and Doug, Laurie and Jim, Wendy and Tom, Cindy, Jim and Lee, Donald and Cindy, Teena and Jeff, Rose and Alan, Bard and Heather, several great nieces, and nephews; and many cousins. She was greeted at the Gates by brothers, Robert and Edward Cantwell; sisters, Doris McRedmond, and Joan Tietjen. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Nurses, Doctors and Staff of Fox Care Oncology, O'Connor Hospital, and Catskill Area Hospice; Patty, Dolores, Ann Marie and Mark, especially. Friends are invited to greet the family on Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi. A funeral service will take place on Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Delhi, with Rev. Sarah Hooker officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery, Delhi. In lieu of flowers, donations are asked to be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 4 Clinton Street, Delhi, NY 13753 and Catskill Area Hospice, 116 Main Street, Delhi, NY 13753.
