Obituary of Nancy J. Turk
EAST MEREDITH
Nancy J. Turk, 79, passed away January 3rd, 2013, at her home in East Meredith.
She was born March 16, 1933 in Stamford, the daughter of Charles C & Lottie J (Burdick) Martin. She married Claude R. Turk on August 22, 1954 at the Gilchrist Church in Kortright Center.
A lifelong resident of Delaware County, Nancy was a proud graduate of Syracuse University with an elementary school teaching certificate. She taught at South Kortright for several years before becoming a full time farm wife and mother. She worked with her husband and sons operating their dairy farm, Turk Ridge Farms, and continued substitute teaching. She worked at HR Block in Oneonta for many years as a tax preparer, specializing in farm and small business returns and opened an office in Harpersfield. She later helped her son Chris run Davenport Home Video and Turk Ridge Accounting. She also worked in the East Meredith post office for many years.
Nancy loved Syracuse University basketball, enjoyed bowling, crocheting, knitting, snowmobiling, square dancing, bird watching, gardening and spending time with family. Later in life she traveled to many places with her sons and friends, but she always said this area was the most beautiful place to come home to.
She is survived by her son Charley and Cindy Turk of Harpersfield, and her granddaughter Meagan Turk of Stamford; son Chris and Teri Turk of East Meredith. Siblings; sister Karen Davis of East Meredith, brother Kenneth "Brud" and Barbara Martin of Gansevoort, sister Mary Martin of East Meredith , brother Glenn "Steve" and Jane Martin of Davenport and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by her dog, Pebbles, who has been a great comfort to her during her recent illness.
Nancy was predeceased by her beloved husband, Claude; children Tammy, Laurie, James, Peter and Tim; brothers, John Martin, Lloyd "Pete" Martin and Emmett "Joe" Martin.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to AM/PM Home Care. Also to the wonderful staff and doctors at the O'Connor hospital swing bed unit, who provided such great care for her before coming home, and to Hospice and AM/PM Home Care who continued her care at home until her passing.

At her request there will be no calling hours or funeral services. A private graveside service will occur in the spring at the convenience of the family. The family would like you to join them for a gathering of family and friends on January 6th, 2012 at 1pm at the East Meredith Presbyterian Church, 10044 Elk Creek Rd, East Meredith, NY 13757.
