Condolences
To Gary's family, my sympathies. I worked at Countryside and retired after 30 years so I was there when Gary's life began there. After retirement, my Mom was a resident on Gary's wing so I would visit with him until he was unable to get out of bed. Gary as we are all aware of was his own person which if you knew him you would understand. He always wanted to come across as tough but had a heart of gold for the residents. I can still see him in his black&white striped tee shirt when Adm told him he could be out of his room bare chested!!! After Gary was transferred to Binghamton, my husband & I were at a drs. appt in Oneonta where the lady who sold the nuts and candies at CCS in the front lobby was setting up her tables. While checking out I told how I missed this since I retired, she asked "do you know where Gary Finkle was transferred to? I miss him so." I told her Binghamton and she was so thrilled as that is where their business is and she was going over to visit him, she thanked me so much. I hope she did go see Gary as the two of them would have enjoyed each other. Please know it was a pleasure to of know Gary. I can vision him up in heaven watching over all the past residents with the angels guiding him in their direction. Patty VerNooy
While I did not know Gary, I believe that we are related, since several of my family members moved from Columbia County, New York to Andes.
Our prayers are with your family.

Deb and I always looked forward to seeing Gary when ever we came to NY. His strong will and spirit will always be with us. Rest in peace Cliffy.
What a wonderful person he was with a great great sense of humor and contagious laugh. I have so so many memories of growing up and always staying with the family during my summers...I will always hold all of that in my heart. Gary was a great man and made the best of his situation for many years, I hear so many good stories of him from when he was at CCC...not a surprise cause that is who he was...continued thoughts and prayers to Aunt Francis and the family....
My condolences to the family. Gary was a very interesting guy and had a good heart. He always looked out for the other residents at CCC and enjoyed the company of others. May he rest in peace.
I will always remember Gary as the gentle giant. I remember Gary & Mark helping my dad paint the house and Gary rough housing with me and Kevin. I will be praying for his mom, brother Mark and his family. God Bless
Even though his own life was difficult, Gary was a strong advocate on behalf of his fellow, and often elderly, patients who could not fend for themselves at Countryside Care Center. He watched out for my father and I will forever be grateful to him. Gary, rest in peace.
To the family...... I worked with Gary at CCC.... LPN 3rd shift. He had his ways of wanting things done and that was it. We butted heads a few times, but he also had a caring heart. Very intelligent, and interesting to talk with.He will be missed by all that knew him.
Our condolences go out to the family. Gary was a good friend and will be missed.
So very sorry for your loss Francis, Ellie and Mark. I'll always remember Gary's unique sense of humor. Ellie, you worked really hard trying to bring your brother home and I'm sure he truly appreciated your efforts.May God bless you all!
I knew Gary when he was first admitted. I was glad to see him when I went back to Countryside. He is one person I felt lucky to know. He introduced me to the wonderful world of Chinese food way back when. He sold me three little jack knives. One of them just got put up to remember him by. I sure had a lot of respect for him and my condolences to the family.
Sorry to hear about Gary's passing. My thoughts and prayers are to all his family and friends.
I'm so sorry for your family's loss. Gary was the bravest man I've ever known. I'll never forget his warm smile, witty sense of humor & wonderful eyes.
Gary was an interesting man to know. I was a Nurse at Countryside that took care of him when working Unit 1 east wing. He sure had his ways he wanted things done and let you know when it wasn't the way he wanted it done. He always had a good story to tell and fun to talk to. I'm glad I had the chance to take care of him and to know him. Thank you Gary for being yourself and keeping us on our toes. You will be missed. thoughts and prayers go out to his family. God Bless.
Mrs. Finkle Ellen and James Mark and family,
I am so very sorry for your loss and wanted you to know how much I enjoyed getting to know Gary over the years that I worked at Countryside. He always had a story to tell and advice to give. He was an inspiration to many because he never gave up on himself or others. I know the last few years had been very hard on him and I pray that you will be comforted by knowing he was loved by so many and will be missed
