Obituary of Peter Giesse

Davenport Peter Giesse, 81, of Davenport, NY passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at Rome Memorial Hospital, Rome, NY. He was born on May 6, 1931 in Crvenka, Yugoslavia, the son of Nikolas and Katharina Giesse. His youth was spent in Vienna, Austria. Peter married Erika Meyer on June 27, 1959. His wife of 53 years predeceased him on July 15, 2012. Peter worked as a machinist at Precision Manufacturing in Flushing, NY for 20 years. Peter and Erika owned and operated a very successful dairy farm in Davenport for over 25 years. They retired from farming in 1989. During their retirement they enjoyed traveling yearly to Florida and made several trips to Europe. It made Peter happy to help his children. This included farming, building projects and home repairs for them. Peter had a passion for animals especially horses, birds and his beloved dog, Hertsy. Peter's warm smile, jovial attitude and sense of humor will be missed by friends and family alike. He had an unparalleled work ethic and kind and compassionate spirit. He is survived by three children; his daughter, Cathy and James Quigley of Myrtle Beach, SC, his son Peter and Danette Giesse of Westernville, NY and his son William Giesse of Davenport, NY. He is also survived by a brother, Karl and Vera Giesse, niece Laurie Lorincz and her son Christian, all of Vienna, Austria; nephew Norbert and Noelle Giesse of New York. Brother-in-law Willy Meyer of Falcon, Missouri, nieces Lynda and Jeff Medley, Wendy and Don McCarty of Texas; a sister-in-law, Minna Schanter, nephew James Schanter, both from New Hyde Park, NY; as well as several great nephews and nieces. Peter also enjoyed all the time he got to spend with his grandchildren, Nicholas, Ashley, and Ryan Giesse and James and Brian Quigley. Calling hours will be Saturday, May 4, 2013 between the hours of 1 and 4pm at the Davenport United Methodist Church, 15696 St. Rte. 23, Davenport, NY 13750. A Committal Service will follow at the Davenport Cemetery, Davenport, NY with Rev. Bert More officiating at 5pm followed by a reception back at the church.
