Obituary of Lillian C. Hilson

BOVINA CENTER Lillian C. Hilson, 92, a long-time Bovina Center resident, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2013. Born October 1, 1920 in Bovina Center to Emil and Margaretha (Butler) Schneider, she was educated at Coulter Brook School and graduated from Delaware Academy, Delhi. She also attended Delhi Ag & Tech. She married Alex J. Hilson in 1939 where she lived in the same house until she died. In addition, she helped clerk at Hilson's Store, assisting her husband in packing vegetables (cauliflower and brussel sprouts) for their cash crop truck garden, and raising chickens and selling eggs. Lil loved to play golf and continued to walk 9 holes until she was 85. She was a past member of the Delhi College Ladies Golf Association. Lil was a life-long active member of the Bovina United Presbyterian Church, Bovina Center, where she served as an elder, trustee, Memorial Committee member, Women's Missionary Society member and a Sunday school teacher. She served her community as the substitute librarian, town tax collector, and an election attendant for several years. She was predeceased by her husband in 1990, and her brothers, Arnold and Carl. She is survived by her brother Edward of Oneonta; her children, James (Margaret) Hilson of Delhi, Thomas (Betty) Hilson of Bovina Center, Margaret Oelsner, Albuquerque, NM, and Marianne (Douglas) Brown of Bozeman, MT. She had many grandchildren spread around the country, Kathy (Gerald) of Albuquerque, NM, Kurt of Albuquerque, NM, Jennifer (Andy) of Caribou, ME, Suzanne (Sean) of Wichita, KS, Marne (Mike) of Bozeman, MT, Chris (Megan) of Exeter, NH, Dan (Erin) of Warminster, PA, Kelly of Brockport, Julie (Mark) of Bovina Center, Jesse of Delhi, and James Andrew (Heather) of Delhi. Lil also had 12 great grandchildren. She was extremely fortunate to have loving nieces and nephews and their families, Christine (Mike) Batey, John (Margaret) Hilson, Nancy Walker, Barb Joedicke, Charles Mole and John Mole. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at 1 p.m. at the Bovina United Presbyterian Church, Bovina Center, with Rev. Garrett Schindler officiating. Burial will take place at the convenience of the family in Bovina Cemetery, Bovina Center.
