Obituary of Larry Nichols Champlin

JEFFERSON Larry Nichols Champlin, 71 of Jefferson, passed peacefully at his home on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. Born to Basil and Nellie Champlin on October 11, 1941, Larry was a lifelong member of the Jefferson community. He was first employed by Catskill Craftsmen for 10 years and then retired from the position of Senior Operator at the New York Power Authority after 30 years of service. Friends and neighbors will remember Larry as a hard-working family man, honest and dependable. He loved spending time "puttering" around his home. If he wasn't driving "the Gator" somewhere, cutting up wood or mowing the lawn, he was probably getting ready to get on a tractor. Larry is survived by his wife of 51 years, Charlotte (Roeser) Champlin; three children, Anita Furness of Aurora, Brian (Heather) Champlin of Jefferson, and Christine (Ken) Worsham of Raleigh, NC. One of Larry's greatest sources of pride and joy were his grandchildren, Larissa Furness, Briana, Christopher and Adam Champlin, and Meghan and Nathan Worsham. They spent many hours with their Poppy tinkering, building, doing puzzles and Sudoku, and sometimes just talking. Larry is also survived by his brother, Roger Champlin of Jefferson, a sister, Linda Champlin of Jefferson, a sister, Debra Dault of Michigan; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister, Carolyn Moyster; and both parents. Friends are invited to greet the family and celebrate memories of Larry's life, today, Thursday, May 30, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart. A service will be held on Friday, May 31, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Jefferson Baptist Church, Jefferson, with Rev. Frank Adams officiating. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Jefferson, following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes to have donations made to Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1 Birchwood Drive, Oneonta, NY 13820.
