Obituary of Jean C. Elwood

Jean C. Elwood, 90, of Delhi, a long-time resident of Sidney, Town of Unadilla, Otsego County, and more recently of The Plains in Oneonta, died Saturday, December 24, 2016 at AO Fox Nursing Home. She was born May 11, 1926 at West Platner Brook, Delhi, the daughter of the late William E. and Helen (Feake) Cobbe, and received her education at Delaware Academy in Delhi, graduating from High School in the Class of 1944. Twice married, first on December 23, 1950 to Douglas R. Elwood who predeceased her on September 28, 1994, and later to Cornelius Stoop on August 30 1997 who predeceased her on March 22, 2010. For several years, Jean worked at law offices in Troy, Walton and Sidney, before being employed at Bendix Corp., Allied Signal and Amphenol Corp. in Sidney, retiring on May 31, 1991. Surviving are two sons: John R. Elwood and wife, Kim of Watertown and Timothy D. Elwood of Winter Park, FL; two grandsons: Ron Elwood and wife Marisa of Columbia, SC and Sean C. Elwood of Prosperity, SC; one granddaughter: Jamie F. Nighswonger and husband, R. Brady Nighswonger of Yuma, CO; one sister: Helen Handley of Mesa, AZ; one brother: Donald Cobbe of Delhi; four great-grandchildren Bailey, Berkley, Beckett and Brooklyn Nighswonger all of Yuma, CO; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a brother: William F. Cobbe of Canastota; one sister: Frances C. Decker of Delhi; and a sister-in-law: Elsie Cobbe of Delhi. Friends and relatives are invited to call on the family on Thursday, December 29, 2016 from 5PM until 7PM at the MacArthur Funeral Home, 131 Main Street, Delhi. A funeral service will be held at 11AM on Friday, December 30, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church of Delhi, Clinton St, Delhi with the Rev. Dr. Lisa Ruth Mays officiating. Burial will take place in the Elwood Family plot at Walton Cemetery.
