Obituary of Robert W. Schoen
ROBERT W. SCHOEN
Robert William Schoen of Hobart died unexpectedly on Sunday, August 4 after a brief illness. He was 56 years old, the husband of the former Carol Sue Dewey of Andes, and father of Maria Theresa Schoen of Garner, NC, Darlene (Jonathan) Van Tilburg of Hobart, and John Nathaniel Schoen, also of Garner, NC.
The son of Celin V. Schoen of Hobart and the late Frederick F. Schoen, he was born February 10, 1957 in Montour Falls, and moved with his family to Hobart in1964. He was a 1975 graduate of South Kortright Central School, and went on to graduate from Roger Williams College (now University) in Bristol, RI. He was one of the first employees of what was then Graham Laboratories, and is now Mallinckrodt Corp., a medical manufacturing company in Hobart, where he is a laboratory technician.
In addition to his wife, children and mother, he is survived by a brother, Roger G. Schoen of Raleigh, NC, two nieces, Erica L. (David) Wilson of Orono, ME and Ellen C. (Gary) Brockwell of S. Chesterfield, VA and a nephew, Craig A. Schoen, also of S. Chesterfield, VA, and an infant grand-nephew, Carter D. Wilson of Orono, ME.
He was an active member of the Hobart United Methodist Church, where he served as board member, lay leader, and representative to Annual Conference. He was also a district lay leader for the Hudson North District of the church.
He especially delighted in spending vacations in Myrtle Beach, SC, and also liked driving around the local area to enjoy the scenery. A Yankees, Giants and Syracuse U. fan, he also enjoyed watching game on television. He also greatly enjoyed reading.
Funeral services will be held at the Hobart United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 10, with the Rev. David Collins conducting the service. Burial will be in the Locust Hill Cemetery in Hobart. Funeral arrangements are by the MacArthur Funeral Home in Hobart.
