Obituary of Edison H. Gile

DELHI Edison H. Gile, 84, of Delhi, died Sunday, November 3, 2013 at home in Delhi. He was born in Pleasant Valley, on June 6, 1929, the son of Harold and Anna (Quinlan) Gile. Ed came to Delhi with his brother Harold and sisters Jeane and Theda. Ed attended and graduated from Delaware Academy High school in 1947. He married Olive "Petie" Clark, January 29, 1950 at the Hamden Presbyterian Church. Edison worked with his father at the Mobil gas station on the corner of Kingston and Main Street which he eventually owned and operated until his retirement in 1991. The gas station was a gathering place for many years and where his excellent service was admired by many. Ed was an active member of the Masonic Lodge #439 for 60 years, Delhi Fire Department with some years of service as the Fire Chief, National Guard, Kiwanis, and the First Presbyterian Church for 55 years. He is survived by his wife Petie; two sons David (Sue Tucker) of Delhi, and Thomas (Jocques) of Rehoboth, DE; his daughter Mary (Paul) Schmitt, of North Franklin; four granddaughters, Michelle, Lisa, and Emily Schmitt & Maci Gile; sister-in-law, Marion Gile of Roxbury; brother-in-law Jack Leal of Florida; and many nieces, nephew and great friends. He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Bud; and sisters Jeane and Tootie. The family would like to thank all those who have helped, stopped to say hello, brought food and shared their stories with us. Friends are invited to greet the family on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the family home, 30 Elm Street, Delhi. A memorial service will take place on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Delhi, with Rev. Sarah Hooker officiating. Burial will take place in the Woodland Cemetery, Delhi.
