Obituary of Evelyn B. Dickson

DELHI Evelyn Boggs Dickson, 104, passed peacefully on December 1, 2013 at O'Connor Hospital in Delhi. She was born on September 28, 1909 in Franklin, the daughter of Hilliard and Nettie (White) Boggs. In 1930, she graduated from the Delhi Agricultural School, now SUNY Delhi and worked there as a stenographer until her marriage to Howard Dickson on August 24, 1935. She then assisted him in his veterinary practice. He predeceased her in 1989. She was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church for 78 years and lived in her home at 23 Second Street for 76 years. She will be remembered for her unrivaled strength, her gentle caring nature, her thoughtfulness and an always positive outlook. The notation in her 1930 yearbook said "she is like a rainbow on a dark day". She is survived by her son Robert and his wife Joan of Sarasota, Fla; her daughters, Lois and her husband Charles Palin of LaFayette, and Margaret and her husband David Jones of Shokan; also surviving are seven grandchildren, Bradley and Dana Dickson, Jeffrey and Stephen Palin, Deanna Torrens, and Jonathon and Joshua Jones; 9 great grandchildren; 3 nieces; and 1 nephew. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, December 5, at 11:00 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church, Delhi, with a memorial service immediately following. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Catskill Area Hospice or to the charity of your choice.
