Obituary of Eleanor Klukkert

DeLANCEY — Eleanor "Ellie" Klukkert, 66, of DeLancey died unexpectedly on Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013, at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown. She was born in Buffalo, to the late Lewis B. and Helen Barry Haigh on July 28, 1947. She married Robert "Bob" Klukkert on Feb. 12, 1972, at the First Presbyterian Church in Delhi. They owned and operated Klukkert's Store in DeLancey for seven years. He predeceased her on June 1, 1999. She was a graduate of East Lansing High in Michigan and attended SUNY Delhi. She was employed by the United States Post Office in Hamden for 30 years. After retiring she worked at Delaware Academy and Central School as a bus aide and teacher's aide. She was affectionately known as "Miss Ellie" in the elementary school. She was a faithful member of the DeLancey United Presbyterian Church, serving as Clerk of Session for over a decade. She was a member of the Hamden Historical Society, Ice Cream Run for Kids Sake and Hamden Relay For Life Team. She will be remembered for her kindness and generosity. She is survived by her daughters, Vicky Klukkert of DeLancey and Lois Klukkert of Oneonta; sisters-in-law, Jane O'Dell of DeLancey and Anne and Roy Ruske of Rochester; nephews, Art Allen of Greene, Randy (Laurie) and Adam Allen of Troy, and Ted (Ann) and Sydney Ruske of Robins, Iowa; niece, Susan (Don) and Kellie and Taylor Burns of Rochester; cousins, Barry (Ellie) Downing of Endwell and Marcia Andersen of Burlington, Mass., and their children and grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents; she was predeceased by her brother, Gilbert Haigh; sister-in-law, Doris Allen; brothers-in-law, Ralph Allen and Ivan O'Dell; and her aunt and uncle, Bea and Franklyn Downing. Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, at the DeLancey United Presbyterian Church, DeLancey, with the Rev. Bert More officiating. Burial will be in Hamden Cemetery, Hamden, at the convenience of the family.
