Obituary of John W. McRedmond

CONCORD, Calif. — John W. McRedmond, 56, of Concord, Calif., passed away Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, at his home in Concord. He was born on May 8, 1957, in Delhi, the son of William and Doris (Cantwell) McRedmond. Growing up in Delhi and graduating from Delaware Academy in 1975, John moved to California where he attended school for hotel and restaurant management. While working as manager of the Danville Hotel in the 1980s, he attended California State University of Hayward for Financing. John enjoyed coming home every fall for what he would call his "New York Adventure," where he would spend time with his family and enjoyed hunting with his brothers-in-law. John was very athletic in his younger years. In high school, he held many different records and won awards for football, wrestling and the community swim team. He enjoyed skiing and hiking with his friends. He always had a wonderful outlook on life. He could be anyone's best friend and always kept a smile no matter what life threw in his direction. Later on in his life, due to health issues, John left the Danville Hotel, but still was able to go back to school for computer programing. His most recent employment was Senior Consultant Specialist for Kaiser Permanente's Electronic Medical Records in Oakland, Calif. He was instrumental in developing their hospital billing program that is utilized in healthcare facilities nationwide. There, he was affectionately known as "the chief" by his co-workers. John is survived by his siblings, Robert McRedmond of Delaware, Carol O'Dowd of Texas, Anna and Michael Mason of Delhi, Mary and Douglas Rosa of Delhi; nieces and nephews, Bobby and Amber McRedmond, Jeremiah Rich, Michael O'Dowd, Micci and Taylor Mason, Haley and Brandy Rosa; three great-nephews; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. His family meant everything to him. He was predeceased by his parents. Calling hours will take place privately at the convenience of the family. A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, at the First Presbyterian Church, Delhi, with the Rev. Sarah Hooker officiating. Friends are invited to greet the family during a reception immediately following the service. Burial will take place in the spring in Woodland Cemetery, Delhi.
