Obituary of Donald L. Kerr

Davenport Donald L. Kerr, 71 of Davenport, NY passed away on Saturday, January 18,2014 at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown, NY. He was born December 20, 1942 in Stamford, NY the son of Lauren and Florence (Sloan) Kerr. He married Dawn Darling in 1964, on January 4, 2014 they celebrated their "Golden Wedding Anniversary". Don was a lifetime resident of North Kortright; graduated from Stamford Central School in the Class of 1961 and a graduate of Albany Business College. Donald wore many hats and was a firm believer in multi-tasking; in years past, working with his father under Kerr Trucking, on the milkrun and hauling coal, moving on to the V & K Body Shop and sales of Scorpion snowmobiles. He was also active in the local fire departments. He was elected as Town Supervisor for the Town of Kortright; coordinator of the Delaware County Food Bank; served on the Catskill Rail Committee (Rails to Trails project from Grand Gorge to South Kortright); worked with operations department formerly of Wilber Bank; and a longtime member and treasurer for Charlotte Valley Presbyterian Church and North Kortright Cemetery Association. Don enjoyed many walks and snow shoeing around Gilbert Lake with his wife. He and the family had many camping trips and over the road adventures. He was a NY Yankee, NASCAR, and Fonda Speedway fan. In most recent years he discovered his natural "green thumb" and found a love for books. He had special times with his Grand-daughter attending school events and working together restocking the Food Bank shelves. Family dogs always had a special place in his heart. He always found time to play ball with Sophie, Ruby and Bruno. He proved to accept life's challenges and bonuses with equal grace. He is survived by his wife Dawn (Darling) and blessed with three daughters and son-in-laws, Lisa (Jeff) Morell, Debi (Jim) Moore, and Sarah (John) Cardwell; his grand-daughter Jessica Moore; his sister and brother-in-law Doris (Robert) Hedman; sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. Memorial Services will take place on Friday, January 24, 2014 at 1:00pm at Charlotte Valley Presbyterian Church, Davenport, NY with Rev. Carol Wilson officiating. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 from 2-4 and 6-8pm at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart, NY. Burial will be private in the Spring in North Kortright Cemetery, North Kortright, NY. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to: Delaware County Food Bank (Davenport/Kortright); North Kortright Cemetery Association and Charlotte Valley Presbyterian Church.
