Obituary of Betty Ann Adams

SOUTH KORTRIGHT Betty Ann Beken Adams, 76, passed away on January 24, 2014 in Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown, with her family by her side. Betty was born on March 1,1937 in Bloomville, the daughter of Edwin E. Beken and Laura (Gavett ) Beken. She was a graduate of South Kortright Central School and SUNY Plattsburgh, with a B.S. in Elementary Education. While in college she was a member of the Lady Cardinals basketball team and involved in many campus activities. Betty married John R. Adams on July 4, 1959. After college, Betty taught in Norwich, NY and Trumansburg, NY before they returned to Delaware County to enter the dairy farming business. She also taught at the South Kortright Central School for 24 years before retirement. Betty enjoyed many outdoor activities and especially golf, where she was a long standing member of the Delhi College Course Lady's Association. She and John also enjoyed their time spent together for part of winter months in Sarasota and annual trips to Maine. Betty leaves behind the special people in her life including John, her husband of 54 years. She also leaves behind daughter Beth, Hobart, NY and son, Scott, of Hobart, NY, as well as granddaughters Laura Adams-Durgin, Rachel Adams and Krista Northrop and several great grandchilren. Betty also leaves behind a sister Ella Mae Finifizio, her husband Ralph, sister in law Norrie Beken and several inlaws by marriage as well as nieces and nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her brother, Robert Beken. There will be a memorial service at 11AM on January 31, 2014 at the Bloomville Methodist Church, with Pastor Romana Abelova officiating.
