Obituary of Eleanor Drew
DeLancey
Eleanor Drew, DeLancey, passed away peacefully from heart failure on February 18, 2014 surround by her loving family. Eleanor, 95, was born in NYC and lived there until moving to Andes, NY in 1969.
She raised four children and a host of others who called her "Mom". Among her many achievements were supporting the war effort for Sperry-Rand, serving in the first group of school crossing guards in NYC, completing LPN training at Columbia Presbyterian School of Nursing at age 55, and leading Girl Scout troops for over forty years including directing Camp Amahami in Sanford, NY for two summers.
Eleanor was professed into the Third Order of St. Francis in 1964.
She loved traveling, sewing, crocheting, craft projects and taking care of others.
Eleanor worked as an LPN at O'Connor and Margaretville Hospitals before doing private duty nursing until age 70.
She is predeceased by her husband, Richard "Bud" Drew (NYC and Andes) in 1981.
She leaves her four children, Richard (Vicki) Drew of Glenwood Springs, CO, Susan Drew (Lorenzo) Thomas of Washington, DC, Michael (Kathy) Drew of DeLancey, NY, and Bill (Mary) Drew of Andes, NY. She also leaves loving nieces and nephews and four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
A Mass will be celebrated at St. Anne Roman Catholic Church, Andes, on February 20, 2014 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Edward Golding officiating. All are invited. No flowers please.
There will be no calling hours.
Memorial donations in her name can be made to St. Anne's Catholic Church or the Andes Library.
Burial will take place in Andes Cemetery in the spring.
