Obituary of Pearl Barber

Hobart Pearl Barber, 90 of Hobart, NY passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at home. She was born July 30, 1923 in Bloomville , New York the daughter of Jesse (Cleveland) and John Haynes. She married J. Harold Barber in the Bloomville United Methodist Church on October 4, 1947. He predeceased her in August, 1999. Before Pearl was married she worked at the Scintilla in Sidney and in the dental office of Dr. Everett Waugh in Oneonta. After marriage they ran the family farm and raised five children where they also hosted five Rotary Exchange Students. A sixty-six year resident of Hobart, Pearl was a graduate of South Kortright Central School. She actively participated in the Hobart United Methodist Church and enjoyed working on summer bazaars and dinners at the church. She loved being able to attend to the needs of others, whether it was to drive them to appointments or visit with a piece of pie. She is survived by three daughters: Margaret (Richard) Kenyon, East Meredith, Carol Barber, Orchard Park, and Mary (David) Starr, Poughkeepsie; two sons, David (Joyce) Barber, Hobart and Stephen Barber, San Francisco, CA; her brother, Wilber Haynes, Bloomville; eleven grandchildren, Amy Kenyon, Meg Hungerford, Jo Boring, Mark Kenyon, Beth Kenyon, Christopher Barber Troskosky, Cathlyn Barber Troskosky, Craig Troskosky, Lisa Starr, Sara Scardaci, and David Starr; and four great grandchildren, Morgan, Jillian and Jesse Hungerford and Sitota Boring. She was predeceased by her husband Harold, a sister Mary Townsend and granddaughter Caren Barber Troskosky. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at 11:00am in the Hobart United Methodist Church, Hobart, NY. Calling hours will precede the service at 10:00am until service time at the church. Burial will be at a later date in Locust Hill Cemetery, Hobart, NY.
