Obituary of Florence H. Cable

STAMFORD, - Florence H. Cable, 94, formerly of Roxbury, Jefferson and Grand Gorge, NY passed away peacefully on Feb. 26, 2014 at Robinson Terrace Skilled Nursing Facility in Stamford, NY. She was born in Walton, NY on January 23, 1920, to Edwin R. and Tillie (Crook) Howland. Her parents and identical twin sister, Frances McGrail predeceased her. Florence graduated from Walton High School and attended Syracuse University. On June 1, 1947, she married Merlin C. Cable in Walton, New York. He predeased her in 1971. They operated Cable's Cattle Market in Roxbury, NY for several years. Florence became a teller and then bookkeeper for The National Bank of Stamford in Stamford, NY. After retirement, she and her identical twin sister, lived in Walton in the house where they were born at 47 Townsend St. They had many happy years together until Frances' death. Before residing at Robinson Terrace, she lived in Grand Gorge at the Senior Housing for fourteen years. She had made many friends there and enjoyed her independence to shortly after her 94th birthday. Florence is survived by her two daughters, Patty (Sid) Wright of South Kortright, NY and Cindy (Rich) Baldwin of Stamford, NYand step-son Jim (Patty) Cable. Eight grandchildren, Candy(Karl) Gockel , Matt (Rose) Wright, Melinda (Rob) Wells, Jessica Baldwin, Lacey Baldwin, Travis Baldwin, Regina Cable and Jennifer (Chris) Hermann. Five great-grandchildren, Hunter Grace, Ava Gockel, Gage Gockel, Brandon Wright and Mikayla Wright. In keeping with Florence's wishes, there will be no calling hours or service. Burial will be in the spring at Paige Cemetery in Downsville, NY at the convenience of her family.
