Obituary of Kathleen A. Harrington

PRATTSVILLE — Kathleen A. Harrington, 93, died peacefully at the home of her daughter, Cynthia, and son-in-law, Robert Truesdell, on March 21, 2014. She was born Jan. 20, 1921, in Prattsville, where she spent her entire life until hurricane Irene destroyed her home. She was the daughter of Jennie (Boomhower) and Charles F. Alle. Her father owned and operated Alles Mohican Coach Lines for many years and when a severe heart attack prevented him from working, Kathleen took over, ran the business and also drove the buses herself at 21 years of age. The business prospered under her management until it was sold to Adirondack Trailways. She married Ward Harrington on Feb. 14, 1942. He had driven bus for her father and later Trailways for 41 years. After the business was sold she became a housewife and was the best mother a child could ever wish for. Kathleen loved bowling and was president of the Bowling Green for many years. She also operated a macramé business at her home in Prattsville. She also enjoyed traveling, took a bus trip coast-to-coast and enjoyed many fun filled vacations at Walt Disney World with her daughter. She graduated valedictorian of her class of Grand Gorge Central School, and since friends and classmates were very important to her, she started the Grand Gorge Alumni and only missed one banquet out of 65. She is survived by a daughter, Cynthia Truesdell and son-in-law, Robert; a nephew, Arthur Clark; and numerous cousins. A private funeral for immediate family will be held at the MacArthur Funeral Home in Hobart at 2 p.m. on March 24. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to a charity of one's choice and would be appreciated. Those who wish to share condolences or a special memory may do so online at www.macarthurfh.com. Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart.
