Pauline Hebbard

Obituary of Pauline M. Hebbard

DAVENPORT Pauline Mary Palmer Hebbard passed away peacefully in her home on Meadowbrook Farm at Butts Corners, Davenport on Saturday, May 31, 2014. She was born October 17, 1920, at home on Mapledale Farm at Fitches Bridge in Delhi, the daughter of William and Della Wilcox Palmer and sister of Eleanor Palmer Gardner. Pauline grew up in Delhi and attended the former Fitches Bridge District School. After district-wide consolidation, she attended Delaware Academy, graduating at 15 years of age. She then went on to attend Hartwick College, graduating in 1939 at 19 years old. After college, Pauline was employed as a social worker for Delaware County. She married Herbert D. Hebbard on December 29, 1943, and after Herbert's discharge from the U.S. Navy, they moved to Davenport where they operated a dairy farm and raised their three daughters, Phyllis, Lois and Margie. Although a piece of her heart was always at Mapledale farm in Delhi, Pauline and Herb loved their spot at Meadowbrook in Davenport. Together, Pauline and Herb shared a love for gardening, hosting family and travelling around Delaware County visiting friends, family and any berry patch they could find. Herb and Pauline were deeply devoted to their family, church and community and over the years they provided a home to many children and adults in need. Pauline was a woman of faith, principal, integrity and courage. She lived her life giving to others, seeing the good in everyone and the beauty of every day. She served her church, the United Methodist Church of Davenport, community and family and anyone else that needed her. She appreciated flowers of all kinds and will remain famous for her delicious pies which she was happy to share with anyone. In her later years she would often chuckle and remark that she wanted to be remembered as a person who "did what she could." Pauline is survived by her daughter Lois Hebbard Haight (John), grandchildren David Adair (Linda), Marc Adair (Lori), Susie Spagnuolo (Rick), Seth Haight (Erin), Michael Cody (Katie), and Christopher Cody. Great grandchildren; Jessica and Mackenzie Adair; Rachel Adair; Justin, Maggie and Andrew Spagnuolo; Alex, Owen, and Charlie Haight; and Henry and Elizabeth Cody. She was predeceased by her husband Herbert, daughters Phyllis Adair O'Connell and Margaret Cody, sister Eleanor, grandson Collin Haight, sons in laws Eugene Adair, Jack O'Connell, Joe Cody and great granddaughter Lucy Grace Spagnuolo.
