Obituary of Wilhelmina K. Sturdevant

DELHI Wilhelmina "Billie" K. Sturdevant, 86, of Delhi, died Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at Chestnut Park Rehab and Nursing in Oneonta where she was currently residing. She was born on March 5, 1928 in Delhi, the daughter of Raymond A. and Mary (Bell) Kinch. She married George W. Sturdevant on November 4, 1950 in Hamden. He predeceased her on April 13, 2005. Billie attended Delaware Academy, Delhi, and graduated with the class of 1947 as their Valedictorian. She was very involved in sports and activities while in school. She began her work career as a secretary for the dental practice of George Schlaefer and later became secretary for the United Ministry in Delhi, after the Second Presbyterian and Methodist Churches merged. She worked for the United ministry until her retirement. Even after retirement, she remained devoted to her church. Billie could often be found attending one of her grandchildren's sporting events. She was a very faithful follower of her grandchildren and their interests. Her many hobbies and interests included flower gardening and craft work (she made a Christmas ornament every year for each of her grandchildren). She and her husband George enjoyed traveling and took 2 cross country trips. They loved to camp, particularly in the Adirondack Mountains. She is survived by her son, Charles T. Sturdevant and Tami Thill of Montague, CA; son, Duane R. Sturdevant (Barbara) of Delhi; daughter Patricia A. Post (William) of New Berlin; grandchildren, Derek Sturdevant (Debbie), Shelby Casola (Peter), Ryan Sturdevant (Louann Redard), Patrick Sturdevant, Kenda Post, Sarrah Post, and Hannah Post (Cody VanDyke); great grandchildren, Cody & Benjamin Sturdevant, Benjamin & Alexander Casola, Kenley Sturdevant, and Brenya & Adilynn Post-VanDyke; brothers, Raymond Kinch (Myrtis), and Lynwood Kinch (Ruth); and several nieces, nephews. She was also predeceased by her daughter in law, Kathy Sturdevant; brothers, James Kinch, Robert Kinch, brother and sister in law Ernest (Sawyer) & Florence Kinch, brother, Howard Kinch, and sister and brother in law, Barbara & Collin Mathiesen. Calling hours will take place on Friday, September 19, 2014 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 10 a.m. at the United Ministry Church, Delhi with Rev. Dr. Duane Buddle officiating. Burial will take place in Woodland Cemetery, Delhi.
