Obituary of Linda J. Oblinski

Linda J. Oblinski of East Meredith passed away early Monday morning, January 23, 2017 at Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown, following complications from a long battle with diabetes. Born in Brooklyn, Linda was the daughter of the late Al and Marion (Balaker) Selwyn. She was raised in Commack, Long Island, and graduated from Commack High School. Mrs. Oblinski received a Masters Degree in Education from SUNY Oneonta. Linda was an elementary teacher for over 30 years, teaching first in Accompsett School District in Smithtown, Long Island and spending most of her career at South Kortright Central School until her retirement. Linda truly loved teaching and was proud of each and every one of her students. She enjoyed shopping, baking, playing cards and Mah Jongg, spending time with her K-9 companion, Boomer, craft projects, decorating and spending her winters in Florida. Linda loved nature and all that it had to offer - camping, gardening, butterflies and flowers, especially sunflowers. She enjoyed spending time with friends both in New York and Florida. Above all else, Linda loved her family. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and proud grandmother. Linda is survived by her husband: Donald Oblinski of East Meredith; daughter: Jennifer (Scott) Seeber of New Jersey; son: Matthew (Amelia) Oblinski of Bloomville; grandchildren: Andrew Seeber of NJ and Kadence Oblinski of Bloomville; sister: Jody (Tom) Sawyer of San Diego, CA; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11AM on Saturday, January 28, 2017, at Sacred Heart Church, Stamford, with the Rev. Michael Cambi, celebrant. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Stamford.
