Obituary of Barbara Gail Kiviranna

Barbara Gail Kiviranna, 66, of Delhi, died Sunday, December 21, 2014 at Vermont Respite House in Williston, Vermont.She was born on February 12, 1948 in Brooklyn, the daughter of Eileen and Aaron Barnett.Barbara led a vibrant life that was sadly cut short by ovarian cancer, diagnosed in July 2014. She remained a brave, iron-willed woman to the very end and was so grateful for all the love and support she received from family and friends throughout her ordeal.Barbara taught elementary school for over 27 years, dedicating the majority of that time to Delaware Academy and Central School in Delhi. She also taught in Liberty, NY, Andes, NY and South Kortright, NY. More recently she enjoyed woking as an adjunct English professional at SUNY Delhi. Throughout her teaching career she impacted the lives of countless students and is remembered as the favorite teacher of many.Barbara cherished her friends and she had many. Her lively and magnetic personality made her the consummate social butterfly. Whether it was camping in Alexandria Bay, boating on Otsego Lake or gathering at her winter home in Florida. Barbara always enjoyed spending time with her friends.Most important to Barbara was her family who will remember her as a doting daughter, a devoted sister, an unconditionally loving mother, a proud grandmother, a caring cousin, an adoring aunt and an absolutely wonderful person who left this world too soon, but gifted all with memories that will be cherished forever.Barbara is survived by her father, Aaron Barnett of Andes, NY: a son Travis Kiviranna, his wife Amy, and grandchildren, Aleksander Aaron and Margaret Mae of Burlington, VT: a son, Vance Kiviranna, his wife Elisa, and grandson Arlo of Burlington, VT: a brother, Robert Barnett and his wife Sharon, of Marietta, GA: her nphews, Blake Barnett and Mathew Barnett of Atlanta, GA, niece, Whitney Kirby and her husband Brett of Portland, OR: her cousins, Linda Halabi and Karen Brown of Virginia Beach, VA, Nancy Cook of East Northport, NY, Patty Arcuri of Poughkeepsie, NY, Susan Bela of Brightwaters, NY: and her dog Emmy.Barbara requested to be cremated. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, January 3, 2014 at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Delhi, with Rev. Sarah Hooker officiating.
