Obituary of Viggo Skovsende

Viggo "Joe" Skovsende, 84 of Andes, New York died Saturday, May 30, 2015 at home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born at home in Bovina February 7, 1931 to the late Hans and Nina Skovsende. He graduated with the Class of '48 from Andes Central School. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Army and served in the Korean Conflict. In 1957 he married his wife Elsie and they settled on their dairy farm in Andes on Rte. 28 where they would raise their family of 5 daughters. Joe loved his farm and making his famous fenceposts. He was always happy working outdoors on the land and loved to hunt. He loved the time spent with his family and enjoyed times spent at the casino. Joe is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Elsie; his daughters, Susan, Sharon, Joan, Judith and Stephanie; 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; his sister, Nora Cole and brother Niels Skovsende and his wife Barbara; many nephews and friends. He loved his family deeply and will be greatly missed and never forgotten. Friends and family and invited to join the Skovsende Family to celebrate his life at the MacArthur Funeral Home, 131 Main St., Delhi on Friday, June 5, 2015 at 2:00pm with Rev. Bert More officiating. There will be no calling hours, Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Andes Cemetery, Andes, New York. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joe's memory may be made to the Cancer or Diabetes Society or Charity of one's choice.
