Obituary of Anna Mae Hitt Martin

Anna Mae Hitt Martin, 89, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2015 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Anna and Paul Slavinski, with her daughters by her side. She was born June 14, 1926 in Bloomville, the daughter of Fred E. and Susan (Smith) Hitt. She married William (Tom) Martin on June 16, 1944 in South Kortright. He passed away December 7, 1996. She was a farmer's wife. She was devoted to her family and was always thinking of others. She made cinnamon rolls that could never be duplicated and was known for the cookies and apple pies she made for as long as she could. Many family members and friends still use the Christmas stocking she knit with love. She and Tom opened their home to many "Bloomville Boys" and many others needing a place to call "home". Anna was a member of the St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Bloomville. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law Anna and Paul Slavinski of Howes Cave: daughter, Jane Griffin of Bloomville: son-in-law Roger Sackett of Bloomville: grandchildren and great grandchildren-Roger Thomas Sackett; Anna and Nick Booher, Thomas and Maggie Hitchcock; Phynetta Slavinski: Patrick Slavinski and his daughter, Sierra; Rebekkah and her daughter, Alessandra; Tracy and her son Thomas Richard; Marlena and Richard Funk, Joshua and Jarred Funk; Mike and Regina Dianich, Faith, Griffin and Troy Dianich. She is also survived by her sister, Dorothy Johnson, brothers, Melvin, John (Penny), Sam (Davey), and Richard; sisters-in-laws Donna Hitt and Trudy Hitt Colvin, and many dearly loved cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by daughters Margaret Sackett (1991) and Judy Finch (2005), grandchildren, Daniel Martin Slavinski (1994), and Suzanne Martin Finch (2009), and son-in-law Bob Griffin (2008). And her brothers, Jim and Fred Jr. and sisters Mae Sandin and Margaret "Peg" Smith. At her request there will only be a Graveside Service at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 26, 2015 at Riverside Cemetery, Bloomville, with Richard Kenyon officiating. Calling hours will be from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Thursday, June 25, 2015 at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart, NY. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Catskill Area Hospice.
